Additional Conquer (CD + DVD) Information

Special Edition CD/DVD set includes three bonus tracks. The bonus DVD features a previously unreleased full concert from Warsaw, Poland, 2005. The Soulfly tribe is once again on the warpath.
Soulfly' s sixth offering for Roadrunner Records, Conquer, may very well
be the musical equivalent of the movie Braveheart. The songs much
like the warriors in the film- channel raw, unbridled rage through a
cacophony of thrash guitars, infectious grooves, tribal polyrhythms and
Max Cavalera' s unmistakable, thunderous roar. On this record, Soulfly
unleash a metallic mayhem unlike anything they' ve done previously.
Conquer shifts from unrelenting, precise speed metal to slow,
brooding doom. Marc Rizzo' s lead guitar rips with the precision of a
smart bomb, while Bobby Burns grinds out volatile, chest-caving bass
lines. Drummer Joe Nunez crushes behind the kit, forging a rhythmic
background for all-out sonic war. Once again, it s the legendary Max
Cavalera who stands at the eye of the storm, uniting the musical tribe
and acting as its unofficial leader. His voice and guitar command the
tribe into battle with each line and riff. Grab your war paint and prepare
for the onslaught.

What Customers Say About Conquer (CD + DVD):

And how they give it some slow parts in the songs like unleash with the slow part in the middle and the end of doom. Ive been a really big fan of max calavera and his music, when this album was released I got it and it was incredible. Very fast and good guitar solos, especially in paranoia and doom. This album is very very VERY good and i love it. =)

As stated previously, nothing out of the ordinary musically but its executed tightly and with a no holds barred approach. Straight forward tracks of Riffs that crawl under your skin. This works well with the down-tuned guitars. Really they all go together anyway.

There aren't nearly as many skip-able tracks as there were on 'Prophecy' and 'III'.I would totally skip the 'Soulfly VI' track at the end. I understand trying to stick in something different, but it is unwarranted. Especially on 'Warmageddon' and 'Blood,Fire,War,Hate' which has a very reminiscent sound of 'Remains' era Sepultura. There are guitar solos on this that are very good and fit songs appropriately. There are more 'Sepultura' sounding tracks as well. This disc is not unlike previous releases but has a stronger Metal element.

People who like the Roots and Remains era of Sepultura will definitely enjoy this over older Soulfly discs. Max Cavelera seems to be coming full circle with the thrash metal stylings of old at this point. And 'For Those About To Rot' is a decent track with a touch of Brazilian/Tribal flavor. Those are my favorites, but other tracks hold well. There are definitely More Thrashed out moments and it is very bottom heavy Produced making it sound thicker. 'Doom', 'Unleash', 'Blood, Fire, War, Hate' and 'Enemy Ghost' absolutely kill and are in the same league as anything 'Lamb of God' does but has that Max inflicted flavor.

'Touching the Void' has a real slow-creeper sound reminiscent of Soulfly meets Sabbath. Soulfly do not disappoint and evolve stronger than ever on this disc. Brutal. That said, those who liked Soulfly's debut and more nu-metal approach wont enjoy this as much. But doubt many will admit to liking that era anyway.

It is a terrible way to end the album. Instrumental and does not fit in the context as the rest of the disc. It is Heavy as hell.

Max does not do anything particularly 'new' but there is a renewed energy on this disc that takes over where 'Dark Ages' started. Just don't expect anything earth-shattering or new and you wont be disappointed. 'Paranoia' is a killer mid paced number.

Well done but could have been edited down a little at the end. Cavalera Conspiracy and veteran Sepultura fans should have this though. Also, be sure to listen more than once.

I WENT AND BOUGHT EVEN THE "DARK AGES" ALBUM WHICH SOUNDS LIKE "ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS" OR CHAOS A.D. I HEARD SOULFLY PLAYING ON YOUTUBE-PRIMITIVE.AND IT SOUNDED ALRIGHT. AFTER I BOUGHT "INFLIKTED-CAVALERA CONSPIRACY" I HEARD THEM PLAY ON HEADBANGERSBALL, TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE ALBUM CAME OUT, AND MAX SOUNDS JUST LIKE SEPULTURA DAYS- I BOUGHT THE ALBUM AND IT IS NO DESSAPOINMENT. IF YOU LIKE OLD SEPULTURA, YOU'LL DEFINETELY LIKE THIS ONE. ALSO BUY THE NEW CAVALERA CONSPIRACY ALBUM.

took me few couple of weeks to understand how amazing this album is and how cleverly thrash metal elements have been used. awesome album.

this is an awesome album, but I would of liked a little more of the darkages flavor (just my opinion), but Marc Rizzo's guitar work is awesome again. another great album from soulfly. the dvd live performance is awesome. a must have for any fan of soulfly
